Award Winning National Geographic Photographer Bob Krist

Every profession has its burdens to bear, but have you ever been held for ransom by an angry tribe of headhunters in the highlands of Papua New Guinea, swung at with a machete by a Voodoo priestess in full trance during an all night ceremony, or charged by bulls in a dusty arena in the wilds of southern India? If not, you'll love hearing, and seeing, the real "backstory" of several of Bob's most interesting and challenging assignments for National Geographic and other publications. Great visuals, great stories, lots of "outside the box" problem solving and lots of fun!  Join us, won't you for our first Orchestrated Event of the Season!

Bob Krist is a freelance photographer who works regularly on assignment for magazines such as National Geographic Traveler, Smithsonian, and Islands. These assignments have taken him to all seven continents and have won awards in the Pictures of the Year, Communication Arts, and World Press Photo competitions.

He won the title of "Travel Photographer of the Year" from the Society of American Travel Writers in 1994, 2007, and again in 2008.

Bob lectures in Washington DC as part of the ongoing "Live at the National Geographic" series and teaches photo workshops for the Maine Media Workshops, the Santa Fe Photo Workshops, National Geographic Expeditions, and Linblad Expeditions. For over 10 years, he was the host and main instructor for most of the instructional videos produced by Nikon USA.

An accomplished writer as well as a photographer, Bob is a contributing editor at both National Geographic Traveler and Outdoor Photographer, where he writes a travel photography column. His latest book is called Travel Photography: Documenting the World's People and Places. His book, Spirit of Place: The Art of The Traveling Photographer (Amphoto Books, NY) was hailed by American Photographer magazine as "the best book about travel photography we've ever read."
